SET FOR MANCHESTER ACADEMY TO CELEBRATE
25th ANNIVERSARY
SATURDAY 17th SEPTEMBER 2016
Assembling mastodons of music, the Academy 25 series line-ups will boast towering headliners joined by very special guests - far more than just your standard warm-up acts. We guarantee that no show will be like any other in the country.
Beguiling the Manchester Academy for an exclusive 25th Anniversary celebration, we are thrilled to announce that long-serving Brit-pop heavyweights: BLUETONES will bring their remarkable headline show to the venue for our series of special one-off concerts.
Following on from the success of their own sell-out Anniversary shows in 2015, BLUETONES return to plunder their incredible body of work at the Manchester Academy on Saturday 17th September 2016. Over the last 20 years Bluetones have forged a lasting camaraderie with the venue and its audiences. Visionary frontman Mark Morriss has been somewhat of a staple at Manchester Academy - regularly touring his solo material to its faithful crowds. The chance to see this lovable raconteur, reacquainted with the rest of Bluetones, is surely too good to miss.
As with the other shows announced for the Academy's year long series of commemorative concerts, the night promises to feature a number of surprises and special announcements that will guarantee this Anniversary show will be like no other.
Adding some heft to the evening’s support are very special guests legendary Liverpool band CAST and 90s indie poppers MY LIFE STORY, who will join seminal headliners BLUESTONES to mark the special occasion on 17th September 2016.
Hailing from just up the road, Liverpool’s CAST are no strangers to the Manchester Academy forum. Led by iconic frontman and former-La, John Power, the group’s live show was once proclaimed by Noel Gallagher to be ‘like a religious experience’.
The band’s 1995 debut album, All Change, spawned a slew of hit singles and became Polydor’s highest-selling debut album, outselling The Jam. Labelled ‘The Who of the 90’s’, further commercial success ensued with classic albums such as Mother Nature Calls and Magic Hour.
You might want to hold onto something because you may be blown away by the hits like Finetime, Walkaway and Flying.
MY LIFE STORY have also had a few chance encounters with Manchester Academy, the group passed through the venue the promoting their most prolific album The Golden Mile, a grandiose and melodically sharp release which spawned five singles.
Produced by Giles Martin, the son of legendary studio mogul George Martin, My Life Story’s orchestral leanings drew comparison to bands like The Divine Comedy and the symphonic spectrum of 90s indie.
In 2013 the group announced their first UK tour in 14 years, scaled back from their original twelve piece line up, expect a streamlined performance of stellar tracks like ‘Girl A, Girl B, Boy C’.

As one of UK’s busiest venues and host to some of the most thrilling live entertainment in the Northwest, Manchester Academy was proud to reach a landmark 25 years on October 7th 2015.
For 25 years, the Academy has been the beating heart of the city's untouchable live music scene, both celebrating the classic and providing the platform to propel tomorrow's brightest talents to uncharted stratospheric heights. From Bowie to Bastille, Foo Fighters to Faithless, Kylie to Korn, Lady Gaga to London Grammar, The Prodigy to Prince and Radiohead to Robbie Williams we have been privileged to host them all.
We are hugely grateful to everyone who has helped the Academy outlast even our host city's very finest venues since 1990.
We really can't thank all of you gig-goers, artists, promoters, agents, managers and staff that have always supported us all this time. We can only repay you with the only way Manchester knows how: one massive party. Standby for even more announcements in our year long series of special one-off concerts and festivities to come.
