O2 Wireless Weekender presents Young Knives and others TBC. English geek rocker band Young Knives hail from Ashby-De-La-Zouch, Leicestershire and consists of members Henry Dartnall (vocals, guitar), Thomas ‘House of Lords’ Dartnall (vocals/bass) and Oliver Askew (drums/ backing vocals). The band is notorious for their extremely energetic live performances and also their individual fashion taste which sees them sporting mostly tweed outfits. Young Knives broke into the music scene in 2002 with their very successful debut mini album ‘The Young Knives….Are Dead’, but it was 2005’s single ‘The Decision’ that aided them in garnering national coverage partially due to its dark humoured video reminiscent of The League of Gentlemen. The band released their debut album ‘Voices Of Animals and Men’ in August 2006, which received a nomination for the 2007 Mercury Music Prize. July of 2007 saw the release of ‘The Young Knives Are Dead….And Some’, which is a compilation of tracks by Young Knives. The bands former label Shifty Disco released the compilation of the tracks from ‘The Young Knives…Are Dead’ and its follow up EO ‘Rollerskater’. March 2008 saw the release of the band’s latest album ‘SuperAbundance’, an album of tracks overflowing with catchy hooks and vitriolic lyrics, delivered with humour and gusto. The album reached number 28 in the UK Album Charts. Young Knives will be performing live at Manchester Academy 3 on Saturday 17th May. |
