+ Dan Baird and Homemade Sin (ex Georgia Satillites/Jason & the Scorchers) + DIAMOND DOGS The Quireboys is a hard rock band that formed during 1984 in London, England. Originally known as The Queerboys, the band found success with their debut album ‘A Bit Of What You Fancy’ which reached number two in the UK charts. The foundation for the band came from two friends, singer Spike Gray and guitarist Guy Bailey. Since the early days of formation there has been a lot of recruitments and departures within The Quireboys. Some of the members that stepped in and out along the way include drummers Ian Wallace, guy Hansen, Martin Henderson, Paul Hornby and Rudy Richman, guitarists Darrel Bath, Ginger, Luke Bossendorfer and Guy Griffin, bassists Nigel Mogg and Tim Bewlay and keyboardists Chris Johnstone and Simon Rinaldo. After the release 1993’s ‘Bitter Sweet and twisted’ album, ruptures had begun to appear within the group and they decided to split shortly afterwards. Yet despite the fact that The Quireboys had come to a halt, their music was still very much desired. As a result of this, two more albums were released during the bands sabbatical; ‘Tooting to Barking’, which was compiled by early demos by the band and a double CD which carried a selection of tracks from ‘A Bit Of What you Fancy’ and ‘Bitter sweet and twisted’ as well as a number of other more rare tracks. Through the rest of the nineties, The Quireboys regrouped with new members, only to disband again. Many of those members went on to join other bands such as gods hotel, Dogs D’Amour, Blood From a stone and Nancy boys. In 2000, the newest line up of the group released ‘Lost In space’, a live compilation, followed by 2004’s ‘Well oiled’, an album of down to earth blues rock. The title sums the album up. The Quireboys is a well-oiled machine that have once again produced a great classic rock album, which will never go out of fashion. The Quireboys will be performing live at Manchester club Academy on Friday 16th May. |
