The Magic Numbers have announced details of the rescheduled release date of their forthcoming new album and UK tour.
The album, titled The Runaway, will now be released through Heavenly Recordings on Monday July 26th 2010.
The 12-track album was produced by Romeo Stodart and Valgeir Sigurdsson (Bjork, Bonnie Prince Billy, Múm) and mixed by Ben Hillier (Doves, Elbow, Blur). It is their third album following The Magic Numbers (June 2005) & Those The Brokes (November 2007).
It also features string arrangements by Robert Kirby, renowned for his work with the likes of Nick Drake, Sandy Denny and Elvis Costello. The album was the last Robert worked on before he sadly passed away in October 2009.
Indie rock band The Magic Numbers is comprised of siblings Romeo Stodart (lead guitar, vocals) and Michelle Stodart (bass, vocals) and Sean Gannon (drums) and Angela Gannon (melodica, percussion, glockenspiel, vocals).
Drawing inspiration from many sources, singer songwriters (Cohen, Dylan), 60's harmony groups (Mamas & Papas, Lovin Spoonful), epic rock or such mavericks as David Axelrod. The band craft a sound, which like Flaming Lips or Beck, is coming from everywhere but is uniquely theirs.
After forming in late 2002 their rise came swiftly, beginning in the summer of 2004 when they began supporting well-known artists such as Travis, Ed Harcourt and Snow Patrol. In November 2004 they released a very limited edition 7” vinyl single ‘Hymn For Her’. June 2005 saw the release of the band’s eponymous debut album, which spawned the hit singles ‘Forever Lost’, ‘Love Me Like You’, ‘Love’s A Game’ and ‘I See You, You See Me’. The album was received extremely well by fans and critics alike, achieving rave reviews from all corners of the globe.
After heavy touring and promotion of their debut the band released their second album Those the Brokes in 2006. The album sees the band continue with the dreamy sunshine indie-pop that graced their debut.
The Magic Numbers will be performing live at Manchester Academy 2 on Monday 7th June. |
