Italian Electro heads The Bloody Beetroots are indie producer Bobby Rifo and Tommy Rea. Formed in late 2006 the Italian electronca/dance duo gained some international recognition after their album Cornelius, an art project consisting of not only music but also video and fashion, hit the top 100 international iTunes downloads in 2008. Signed to celebrity DJ Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Label they run in a similar musical vein to French superstars Justice. The pair are known for performing in black Spider Man Venom masks which adds to their crazy onstage personas, not dissimilar to the likes of The Locust or Kong. A third member of the crew joined during the 2010 tour, Edward Grinch plays live drums in the set. After Grinch joined they started to refer to themselves as ‘The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew ‘77’. After their debut album Cornelius there have been three releases: Rombo EP 2008, Christmas Vendetta…Spares of Romborama followed in 2009 and Domino EP was released in 2010. They have had tracks featured on FIFA 09 and NBA 2009 as well as being well respected in the dance world for their remixes. They continue to have an interest in the medium of video, being involved also in the Italian Pesaro Film fest this year with 3 Bloody Beetroots films being shown. Expect to hear their trademark style of original production, video and remixes when they hit the stage at Manchester academy 2 on Friday 3rd September. |
