+ James Blackshaw

New York no wave group Swans were formed by Michael Gira in 1982, and quickly became renowned for their punishing onslaughts of sound, extreme volume levels, and the brutal growls and shouts of Gira's vocals. From the much heralded Children of God album in 1987 to their ultimate statement, Soundtracks For The Blind in 1997, they managed to range from mechanical proto-industrial rock, to atmospheric folk, to gentle acoustic tracks, before disbanding in 1997.

Michael Gira began working on new Swans material in January 2010. A new album will be released in August on Gira's own label, Young God Records.

This show will see Michael Gira, Norman Westerberg, Christoph Hahn, Phil Puelo, Thor Harris and Chris Pravdica playing a mixture of new tracks and the heavier Swans material, such as Your Property, Raping A Slave, Power For Power and New Mind.

See Swans perform live at Manchester Academy 2 on Saturday 30th October.
