American indie rock band Say Anything hail from L.A, California and began their career in 2001. Fronted by singer/guitarist Max Bemis, the band quickly began performing at local venues and self-released two EP’s and one LP titled ‘Baseball’. All of these early albums have a pop punk sound reminiscent of Blink-182 and Saves The Day.

2004 saw the release of ‘Is A Real Boy’ on Doghouse Records, produced by Tim O’Heir (Sebadoh, Superdrag, The All-American Rejects). Whilst recording the album Max Bemis had a nervous breakdown resulting in him having to stay in a mental hospital. Fortunately, he quickly recovered and was informed that the breakdown was caused by stress.

Say Anything then went on to sign to J Records, a division of BMG Entertainment. Under J Records ‘Is A Real Boy’ was re-released, along with a bonus disc titled ‘Was A Real Boy’ which contained a number of previous demos which had leaked onto the internet. The album was re-released in February 2006.

October 2007 saw the release of their third full-length studio album ‘In Defense Of The Genre’, which was extremely well received and features twenty-three individual guest vocalists and musicians, including Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, Pete Yorn, Anna Waronkar, Adam Lazzara of Taking Back Sunday and Hayley Williams of Paramore.

The band are currently rumoured to be working on their latest studio album, though a release date is not yet known.

Say Anything will be performing live at Manchester Academy 3 on Saturday 7th June.
