Pendulum formed in their home-town of Perth, Australia in 2002, when producers Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen teamed up with acclaimed local DJ Paul 'Elhornet' Harding. The trio proceeded to join forces with Ben Mount and Paul Kodish to make Drum ‘n’ Bass Music that is typically heavy, accompanied by low, buzzing bass-lines, overlaid with synthesized leads. Now-classic tunes such as ‘Vault’, ‘Back to You’, ‘Voyager’ and ‘Toxin’ were released on small labels such as Uprising Records and Low Profile Records have a darker, more melodic air to them which is substantially absent from their later, more dance-floor driven productions. Such releases earned the outfit a die-hard following until the release of their debut album, Hold Your Colour’ in 2005, when Pendulum hit the mainstream. Their debut received positive reviews in their Native Australia, and the UK, eventually earning the title of the biggest selling drum ‘n’ bass record of all time; selling over 100,000 copies. Tracks off the album received airplay on radio stations across the world, and the outfit firmly established themselves as the finest purveyors of Drum N Bass that the world has witnessed. To date, Pendulum played many DJ sets and live shows around the globe, which sees them team up with MC Jakes and MC Ben The Verse. Their live show incorporates a full band set up where they utilise equipment that lets them replicate their studio environment live. The single "Granite" is their biggest hit to date, earning a respectable number 29 spot in the UK Singles Chart. The track "Slam" was featured in the soundtrack for the video game MotorStorm on the Playstation 3 console and Dance Dance Revolution Universe on the Xbox 360 console. More recently, "Tarantula" was featured in the new Australian television drama series Underbelly. The last 12 months have seen Pendulum retreat to the studio to work on their follow up album, ‘In Silico’ which is set for a commercial release on May 12th. To support this release, Pendulum embark on their headline UK tour in Spring, stopping at Manchester Academy Friday 9th May. |
