CRYSTAL CASTLES
FRIENDLY FIRES
TEAM WATERPOLO
WHITE LIES

Crystal Castles:

“We are Crystal Castles, we are one boy and one girl, we are named after She-Ra’s home, we play rough….” this is how the Toronto based duo describe themselves. Comprised of producer/re-mixer Ethan Kath, and vocalist Alice Glass, Crystal Castles definitely shy away from stagnant trends in today’s music scenes. They are described by Loud and Quiet as ‘the most exciting and original band in the world right now” having just released their debut self titled album in February on Last Gang Records.

Friendly Fires:

Friendly Fires comprises singer Ed MacFarlane, drummer Jack Savidge, and guitarist Edd Gibson who formed from the ashes ‘First Day Back’ – the hardcore band the trio formed whist at school in St Albans. Friendly Fires make razor sharp, post-punk tunes that burn through the skinny jeaned, 80’s revivalists that have dominated mainstream indie music of the past couple of years. A single is out now, with the album expected to drop over the next couple of months.

Team Waterpolo:

To describe the last 6 months for Team Waterpolo as a whirlwind would be a huge understatement; a category five hurricane would be closer to the truth. Their career began with a chance meeting between old school friends who all shared the desire to return to what they did when they were younger – playing in a band. With limited resources to record their music, they posted a song on myspace, and the rest is history. A snowball effect followed with the band becoming featured on the myspace artist spotlight, which in-turn promoted the industry to take note and a slew of gig offers began to come in. The band's debut single is to be released on Moshi Moshi, with their album in the pipe-line. Expect to hear influences from many genres of music in their invigorating sound, including hip hop, dance, punk, indie, new wave, and a lot of pop. Team Waterpolo are quite simply a party for your feet, ears and brain all at once!

White Lies:

Newcomers White Lies hail from West London and consist of members Jack Brown (drums), Charles Cave (bass) and Harry McVeigh (guitar, vocals). They previously achieved recognition as the band Fear of Flying and are already being hailed as the next great British indie band.

The band chose their name because they believe “white lies are common but quite dark” and that is how they see themselves; “…we want to make our way into people’s lives, but there’s a dark undertone to what we do”.

The band recently signed to Fiction Records and is currently focussing on creating their debut album, which will be available early next year. Their debut single ‘Unfinished Business’ will be released sometime soon and apparently involves the theme of murder and the forgiveness of God. Some of the songs by White Lies are reminiscent of Echo and the Bunnymen and Teardrop Explodes. Master musicians such as Nick Cave and Morrissey have been to check out White Lies live, perhaps you should too!
