Doors 7pm. This show has been moved from Manchester Night & Day. Original tickets remain valid.
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, members Andy Hull (vocals/ guitar), Jonathan Corley (bass), Jeremiah Edmond (drums), Chris Freeman (keyboards, vocals) and Robert McDowell (guitar) have an average age of only twenty years and together they produce music which sounds more aware and travelled than many of its more mature peers.
2005 saw the release of the ‘You Brainstorm, I Brainstorm, But Brilliance Needs A Good Editor’ EP, which the band released on their own label Favourite Gentleman Records. Since the release of the EP the band caught the attention of many record labels and took the decision to partner their own label with Sony.
The band released their debut album ‘I Am Like A Virgin Losing A Child’ in 2006. The album is a collection of delicately crafted poignant songs that speak well beyond lead vocalist Hull’s years. His voice rings pure and honest, gently sharing eloquent stories of hope, loss and love.
Manchester Orchestra is anything but classical; they combine moody, swirling, bouncy pop melodies with just the right amount of melancholia.
The band’s debut album gained the attention of the music industry and eventually led to their signing with Canvasback. The band then returned to the studio to record their second EP ‘Let My Pride Be What’s Left Behind’, with producer Dan Hannon and engineer Brad Fisher. It was released on 7th October 2008.
The band’s second album ‘Mean Everything To Nothing’ saw its release on 21st April 2009. The album is raw and more ambitious in scope and sound. Much of it has to do with the front man Hull writing from a personal perspective, drawing from his own experiences and memories: “I was able to be more honest when singing as someone else”, explains Hull. “Now I’ve realised, although its incredibly difficult, it’s more powerful to just say it myself” |
