Manchester isn't all about Oasis and The Smiths. The North West can offer more than indie and skinny jeans, Factory Records and Take That. Manchester Academy are pleased to provide the stage for a showcase of the darker side...a whole night devoted to the sweaty glory of heavy metal. Spread over two venues, the Manchester Academy Metal Festival will be live, loud and bursting with local talent.

Macclesfield's five-piece thrash mongers Silent Slave devote their creative lives to rocking with 'all their might, brutality and art'. They don't ever finish a show without seeing every fist in the crowd being punched emphatically in the air. You can't expect anything but that from a band that claims that their sound encapsulates that of 'the God of Thunder gargling with nails.' They join Mancunian metalheads Visitor on the bill, who are poised to batter the masses with their brand new material completed this year. The four-piece strive for nothing less than good songwriting to compliment their vivacious technical ability for melodic pro-metal packed with speed.
