Canadian singer songwriter Kathleen Edwards fuses country, folk and pop together to produce beautifully elegant and often kooky songs. Her style often finds her categorized under the alt-country music genre.

Edwards began her relationship with music at a very early age, taking violin lessons at the age of five years. She spent many of her childhood years listening to the likes of Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Neil Young. After leaving high school, Edwards chose to perform at local venues in order to earn money. During this period of time she was influenced by Ani Difranco, Whiskeytown and Ryan Adams.

1999 saw Kathleen Edwards record a six-track EP titled ‘Building 55’. By 2000, she was touring Canada independently. In 2001, she wrote new material for her debut album ‘Failer’ (released 2003). Rolling Stone Magazine declared her to be one of 2003’s most promising new acts. Blender Magazine wrote that the tracks on ‘Failer’ possessed ‘…an indefinable pull that makes you love the characters they describe, no matter how f**ked up they are’.

2005 saw the release of ‘Back to Me’, which also garnered considerable critical acclaim and was followed by 2008’ s ‘Asking For Flowers’ which was reviewed by Canadian press as being ‘…unlike your average floral arrangement, there’s not a dud in the bunch.’

Kathleen Edwards will be performing live at Manchester Academy 3 on Wednesday 20th June.
