American singer, songwriter, actor and dancer Jason Derulo wrote his first song aged eight and spent much of his youth studying opera, theater and ballet. He has been writing songs for artists including Diddy, Danity Kane, Donnie Klang, Sean Kingston, Cassie and Lil Mama since he was sixteen, intent on becoming a solo performer.

Jason released his debut single ‘Whatcha Say’ in August 2009, the track samples the Imogen Heap song ‘Hide and Seek’. The single hit the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2009.

Derulo’s self-titled debut album was released on 2nd March 2010 to positive reviews, praising the album for its ‘array of earnest trance-pop, glossy guitar rock and buttoned-down R&B’.
