With their trademark dark glasses and leather jackets, brooding lyrics and garage blues sound Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are every inch the artful rockers. Back with a new drummer and a new album, ‘Beat the Devil’s Tattoo’ the band are spending this year touring European venues and festivals.

Early releases ‘BRMC’ (2001) and ‘Take Them On, On Your Own’ (2003) showcased their love of psychedelic rock along with a nod to more contemporary acts such as The Verve and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Led by Peter Hayes and Robert Levon Been the band have had several drummers along the way – controversial founding member Nick Jago left for good during recordings of the latest album to be replaced by Leah Shapiro.

In 2005 the band showed their softer side by releasing a mostly acoustic album. ‘Howl’ has a more stripped down blues style and allows the haunting vocals and religious themes to shine through (as opposed to hidden behind a wall of distortion and drums). However, they returned to the loud rock’n’roll approach with 2007’s ‘Baby 81’and the resulting tour was documented by the band's first concert DVD, ‘LIVE’, in 2009. The footage on the film perfectly captures the epic live shows but they really have to be seen to be appreciated.
