Ida Maria hails from a tiny village in Norway, called Nesna that she has named her new record label after. Ever so slightly mental, her brand of idiosyncratic indie pop music has proved to be a big hit with scenesters and pop music fans alike. The single ‘Stella’ received massive airplay on both Radio 1 and XFM and is an indie dancefloor tune of the moment.

She is 23 years old, was brought up in a musical family – her dad plays in a jazz band and her mum is a wedding singer. Ida Maria’s songs are often autobiographical and always quirky, and she says she writes ‘rollercoaster songs. Songs about everything – people and places, God, partying and love, from the inside to the outside’.

Recently signed to SonyBMG, Ida Maria has a bright future ahead of her. Her debut album looks set to be released sometime later this year, and promises to be full of the same catchy infectious melodies. Performance wise, Ida Maria has been likened her energetic hero, Iggy Pop – with her superb pop songs, which are full of punk-infused energy.

Ida Maria will be performing live at Manchester Academy 3 on Saturday 31st May.
