+ The Hunter Gracchus

Bloody punch ups, heroin overdoses, passing out face first on stage…. the rock ‘n’ roll list of antics is endless for Nick Cave and his band of merrymen since the very start of their tumultuous, nail biting and riotous career starting with the Birthday Party back in 1976. Who would’ve thought they’d have lasted this long? Surely they are “ damn well old enough to know better”, lets hope not.

Gritty, visceral, noisy, hairy and foul mouthed, witty, wild and impressive, Grinderman is no side project for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds but a beautiful creature all of its very own. They are made up of the following: Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos

Preceding Grinderman, Nick Cave began to write songs on the guitar which gave his material a much more raw feel forming the basis of the Grinderman Demos, which was released on Mute records in march 2007.

Grinderman’s sound comes from Caves raw poetics coupled with long term collaborator Warren Ellis’ multi instrumental composing.

Immediately successful and celebrated by critics the band performed a debut show at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Somerset, followed by a few live one off shows including opening for The White Stripes. They then went on a theatre tour of Australia as an opening act for a Nick Cave ‘solo’ set.

After further touring, the interest in Grinderman launched them into headlining Roskilde festival In Norway in July 2008 alongside Radiohead, Jay-Z and Neil Young.

After the summer of 2008 writing was delayed by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds fourteenth studio album in which they were involved. However, the eagerly anticipated Grinderman 2 album was recorded 2009 in London and produced by long time friend of the band Nick Launay, an experienced producer who has names such as Eric Clapton, Talking Heads INXS, Kate Bush and of course Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. He is currently producing Johnny Rotten’s new album. Production on Grinderman 2 was completed in London and LA in April 2010.

The new album is out on September 13th 2010. The tour starts 25th Sept in the UK and hits Manchester Academy 1 with its sexed-up noise on the 29th September.
