Batman has without a doubt caused many a young boy to aspire to do a lot of great things. But you wouldn't necessarily think it'd have anything to do with creating an endearingly tender brand of poetic indie-rock fusion. But it is most certainly the case for one Sam Duckworth of Southend-On-Sea; who used the title of a solution chapter regarding a computer game featuring the aforementioned superhero to give him his seemingly baffling stage-name, 'Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly'.

Get Cape's debut album 'The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager' was included in both 'NME' and 'Q' magazine’s top 100 albums of 2006 lists. Sam has been praised for his imaginative approach to combining mature political and social commentaries and views with his beautifully pure use of folk-influenced indie with his guitar and laptop as his only weapons. There is a clear intention for this superhero of songwriting to try and fight against injustice in any way he can through his words, which makes each show like a resplendent rally.

One of the most charming things about Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly., beyond the upbeat and charismatic music itself, is the upbeat and charismatic man behind it all. A performer with a real sense of genuineness and honesty, Sam Duckworth is a very likeable young man which plays very well, particularly at the more intimate shows. With his pre-Get Cape days set in the surprisingly distant world of hardcore music, he harnesses his tamed aggression and uses it to ferry the messages within his melodies. As his career developed he travelled much of the country getting close to the people that appreciated what he did; getting some beers in with his fans and borrowing the odd floor to sleep on as well as creatively muse from.

Having drawn in some of his close artistic comparisons including Billy Bragg to contribute on his second effort, 'Searching For The Hows and Whys' and new exciting material like 2010's anthemic single 'Morning Light' the world looks like it will be a better and brighter place as long as Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. Are around.

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. will be playing Manchester Academy 3 on Thursday 30th September.
