Fightstar formed in late 2003 after an impromptu jam session at a party in Charlie Simpson's London home with guitarist Alex Westaway and drummer Omar Abidi. Soon after a few songs had been written the band recruited Bassist Dan Haigh, an old school friend of Alex. Dan had played in various other bands (Blind Oppression, Infliction, 4 Day Week) before moving on to video game design where he was responsible for Quake 2 “Oblivion” and Quake 3 “Revolution.” He also directed Fightstar’s first video.

Rehearsing and playing as often as Simpson's Busted schedule would allow, things quickly got more serious and it became apparent that a decision regarding the band's future had to be made. Simpson ultimately left Busted in early 2005 citing his preference for heavier rock over the pop influenced music he had produced with Busted.

Fightstar's debut EP, "They Liked You Better When You Were Dead”, was released on February 28th 2005, following a rapid promotional tour of the UK. The release proved popular enough to warrant a reprinting on March 23 2005 and the first track, Palahniuk's Laughter, enjoyed heavy rotation on music video channels and spent many weeks in charts based on video and radio requests.

Fightstar released their debut full-length album in March 2006, entitled “Grand Unification” produced by Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Funeral for a Friend). Since the release of their debut they split from Island Records and signed to Institute Records, with whom they recorded their sophomore release “One Day Son, This Will Be All Yours”. The album was recorded in LA with Matt Wallace (Faith No More, Deftones, Sugarcult) and saw its release in September 2007. The album was very well received and garnered great reviews all round. ‘This is an album with a gigantic heart, a work that places them among the best Britain has to offer. It could well make them unstoppable’- Kerrang Magazine.

Fightstar will be performing live at Manchester Academy 3 on Wednesday 28th May.
