Previously known as The Academy, Elliot Minor hail from the city of York and are all classically trained musicians. Members Alex Davies (guitar, vocals, songwriter), Ed Minton (guitar, vocals), Dan Hetherton (drums, backing vocals), Ali Paul (piano, keyboard) and Teddy Hetherton (bass) are all classically trained in piano, cello, clarinet, double bass, violin and singing. The band originally began as an acoustic duo consisting of Alex Davies and Ed Minton in 2004. The boys built a simple recording studio in their attic and spent every available spare minute recording demos and writing songs until they came to realise that they needed to expand the band. They then recruited drummer Dan Hetherton, pianist Ali Paul and Dan’s brother Teddy as the bassist. Shortly after the band’s formation they were signed to Repossession Records, a new label founded by Gary Ashley (former MCA vice president and head of A&R) who is famous for signing Blink 182, New Found Glory, Aqua, Something Corporate, Sublime and Kylie Minogue. The band’s first single was released in April 2007 titled ‘Parallel Worlds’ which is an energetic rock track driven by guitars along with piano and violin weaved throughout it. It was not until April 2008 that the boys released their long awaited self-titled debut album. The album was extremely well received, charting at number six in the UK Album Charts. |
