+ Rolo Tomassi + The Ocean

This is going to attempt to be a brief description of what is essentially, an indescribable band. Manchester Academy presents to you, The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Punk. Metal. Hardcore. With the smallest glimpses of jazz. Intense, yes. Very intense. Furious and extreme. They are so many different things. It is something like making a meal from every single thing you happen to have sitting in the cupboard and the fridge and it miraculously ending up tasting fantastic. If it is something in the range of impossible to attempt to reduce into words, it is certainly something impossible to behold. One of their shows wouldn't fail to impress anyone, from fans of 'conventional' rock shows to sophisticated muso's who would favour the classiness of bands like Radiohead.

The type of work that is achieved on 1999’s debut full-length album 'Calculating Infinity' sets the bar for what The Dillinger Escape Plan were setting out to produce from the beginning - the swirling sounds screaming to get out from deep within them. They had one aim... to set out in every direction possible...simultaneously. The lack of settling on any one sound doesn't prove to be a flaw, but becomes a triumph. Although they may dip in and out of mainstream metal, drop into electronica, dabble with screamo; they never stick around long enough to stagnate and become defined like so many other bands tend to do.

On the topic of their evolution following the release of 2007's astounding 'Ire Works' guitarist Ben Weinman said; 'you can never please everyone and the longer you have been around the harder that gets. I mean, does sex ever really get better with your wife or girlfriend? No! Even if she all of a sudden starts dressing like Wonder Woman and flies onto your c*ck after swinging in on a chandelier, it’s still her. We dress up like Wonder Woman and fly in on a chandelier...and while it may not be the first time we have f**ked you, we are still f**king you harder then ever!”

Your chance to witness the unbelievable spectacle that is The Dillinger Escape Plan is in Manchester Club Academy on Saturday 30th October.
