+ HEAVEN'S BASEMENT Japanese rock band D’espairsRay formed in 1999 by members Hizumi, Karyu, Zero and Tsukasa. They began as a visual kei band and released their material from the moment they formed. The year 2000 saw the release of their first maxi-single ‘Kumo’ which was limited to 1000 copies and sold out immediately. The following year they released their second maxi-single ‘Gewanku’ which was followed shortly by the release of their debut EP ‘Terrors’ in July. Their popularity began to soar after the release of this demo and they began to move out of the local scene. Their second EP ‘Sexual Beast’ saw its release in 2002 and also sold out immediately. 2005 began with the release of their first live DVD ‘Murder Day Live’. Soon afterwards they released their debut full-length album ‘Coll:set’, which proved to be the breakthrough they had been working for all along. A documentary DVD was released in March 2006 titled ‘The World Outside The Cage’ featuring footage from their previous tour. Also that year they released ‘Liquidize’ – their second live DVD. April 2007 saw the release of the band’s second full-length album ‘Mirror’ followed by another live DVD ‘Spiral Staircase 15’. March 2009 saw the release of ‘Redeemer’, the band’s third full-length album which has garnered vast attention in the indie scene due to the band’s distinctive sound, unique visual concept and enigmatic live performances. |
