Black Mountain are a Canadian psychedelic rock outfit from Vancouver.

The name ‘Black Mountain Army’ has been coined by the band for their friends and creative contemporaries back in Vancouver and British Colombia, but somehow (to the amusement of the band) was taken out of proportion by fans and music press and seems to have them pegged as some kind of hippy collective.

Black Mountain has five members: Stephen McBean, Amber Webber, Matt Camirand, Jeremy Schmidt and Joshua Wells. Three of the band work with drug addiction support and study organization ‘Insite’ on the downtown east side of Vancouver by day working on their music at night.

Highlights of their career so far include opening for Coldplay on the Twisted Logic tour for three weeks in 2005 and also being included on the soundtrack to Spider-man 3 with ‘Stay Free’ in 2007. They were Uncut magazine’s ‘the 4th best album of 2005’

Apparently the band is also championed by not only underground music collectors but high profile musicians such as The Flaming Lips Wayne Coyne.

This year the band are scheduled to play at ‘Lattitude’ and ‘T in the park’ and will return to the UK for their first UK tour in two years to coincide with the third release of the third album “Wilderness Heart” released on Indiana based Jagjaguwar records on 13th September in the UK.

They will be with us 15th September in Academy 3Uncut magazine as the 4th best album of 2005.
