Punk rock band Backyard Babies hail from Nassjo, Sweden and formed in 1987. The band is largely attributed with bringing sleaze rock to Scandinavia and Sweden. The band self released a debut extended player titled ‘Something To Swallow’ which earned them a deal in 1993 with Swedish label Megarock Records. 1994 saw the release of their debut ‘Diesel & Power’. However, shortly after the album’s release the band was put on hiatus as guitarist Dregen had formed a garage rock band called The Hellacopters with whom he released two albums, ‘Supershitty To The Max!’ and ‘Payin’ The Dudes’. The Backyard Babies returned in 1997, though this time signed to MVG Records with whom they recorded their most critically acclaimed album ‘Total 13’, which is far more energetic and frantic than their debut effort and is considered a glam punk classic, often being compared to the likes of the New York Dolls, The Damned and the Ramones. The band’s follow up to ‘Total 13’ was 2001’s ‘Making Enemies Is Good’, which was followed by 2003’s ‘Stockholm Syndrome’, which won the band a Swedish Grammy. In 2005 the band embarked on a US and European tour with Social Distortion. They also re-entered the studio and recorded their fifth studio album titled ‘People Like People Like People Like Us’, which was produced by Hellacopters member Nicke Andersson. Backyard Babies will be performing live at Manchester Academy 3 on Sunday 7th September. |
