Post-punk rock four-piece outfit The Automatic hail from Cardiff, Wales and formed in the fall of 2003. The band consists of members James Frost (guitar, vocals, synths and keyboard), Rob Hawkins (lead vocals, bass, synths, keyboard, flute), Iwan Griffiths (drums) and Paul Mullen ex-Yourcodenamis: milo (guitar, vocals, synths, keyboard).

The members have been the firmest of friends since the early nineties when they met at primary school. The band was originally called ‘White Rabbit’ but renamed themselves The Automatic because they believe that music is the antidote to ‘the automatic life’.

2005 saw the band sign a five album record deal with B-Unique Records. The band released their debut full-length album ‘Not Accepted Anywhere’ in June 2006. Shortly after the release of their debut, the band released their ‘Raoul’ EP that contained a number of early unreleased songs and some B-sides.

The automatic’s most famous single is ‘Monster’ which reached number four in the UK Singles Chart. ‘Monster’ has also been remixed into a dance track by Fatboy Slim and some football teams even use the song as an anthem.

The band has recently completed the recording of their second full-length album, which James Frost commented on stating that the tracks are ‘poppier’ than before, with some heavier songs and some more mellow tracks. The album is currently set for release sometime in August this year and will be titled ‘This Is a Fix’.

The Automatic will be performing live at Manchester Academy 2 on Saturday 14th June.
