The Academy 1 refurbishment is nearing its completion. We would like to thank our customers for their patience and look forward to opening the fully revamped project soon. Please be aware that there are temporarily no cloakroom facilities at the Academy. THE REFURB PLANS:
There will be a full major refurbishment of bars, toilets, cloakrooms, first aid facilities and the front of house. This exciting new venue will also boast a larger stage and a much improved backstage area. There will be a purpose built disabled viewing area.
It will be a pioneering environmentally friendly building which will harvest rainwater for the toilets and cleaning use, and the building will be heated by means of deep borehole heat conversion and solar panels. To enhance the Academy's presence on the Oxford Road there will be a new multi- coloured glazed tower entrance also internally providing a dynamic entrance foyer. We are looking forward to unveiling our fabulous venue in September. MCR AWARDS: All at the Manchester Academy are thrilled to have been voted as the Best Entertainment Venue in the recent MCR Awards 2007. We are delighted to have been recognised as the "best venue" in these awards especially when we were up against huge competition including the MEN Arena, the Apollo and the Royal Exchange Theatre. More importantly we know that the nomination and the win was secured by you - our customers - who voted for our venue(s). Many thanks to you all for taking the time to vote for us and gaining us this recognition. We believe we can only now go from strength to strength especially when the main Academy venue is currently undergoing a £3.5M refurbishment program - due for completion in early 2008. This program includes increased venue capacity, purpose built disabled viewing platform, fully accessible dressing rooms, new front of house and stage areas, enhanced bar and toilet provision and a feature glass tower entrance which will enhance the profile of the Academy on the Oxford Road. The refurbishment has also been carried out with a view towards environmental sustainability and will utilise grey water harvesting for toilets and cleaning and deep ground bore heating. Once again many thanks from your friends at the Manchester Academy. |
