MY SERGEANT MASK

My Sergeant Mask exudes the kind of enthusiasm that only a band so young can. Free from the hang-ups and paranoia that follow experience in the industry, the band (average age 17), originating from Stoke-on-Trent and together since 2006, continues to write the kind of songs that artists many years more senior strive in vain to reach. With the combined talents of Kate Crnokrak (vocals) and Matt Davies (lead guitar) penning the tunes, the band has risen to momentous heights in a very short time.

Their victory in the BBC Midlands Today School of Rock 2007 competition is the obvious high point, bringing the band to the attention of the masses via TV. But that’s not all - radio play has followed, together with a string of top gigs supporting everyone from rock legends, Status Quo, to rising stars such as Boy Kill Boy. The band regularly headlines Stoke’s largest venue, The Sugarmill, where they headed the Friday night of the 2007 Axis Festival – a week-long event this year led by The Wombats. Away from the confines of local recognition, live shows across the North-West and Midlands have built up an army of a following outside of My Sergeant Mask’s comfort zone.

Gigs are where many think My Sergeant Mask come into their own. Beyond Kate’s soaring vocals and Debbie Harry-like strut around the stage, and Matt’s cool, brooding guitar sounds, you have the rock of the band, Shaun Stubbs, wielding the bass guitar with authority and Ash Dale taking the drums to within an inch of their very lives time after time.

Hallmarks of early material from The Jam and Manic Street Preachers scream out from the guitars and the mention of Miss Harry above brings the inevitable and not unfair comparison with Blondie. But the joy of My Sergeant Mask is that they are not trying to be any of those bands. They are, quite honestly, too young to be truly influenced by them and, in that case, that they are able to be compared to them tells all anyone needs to know about their talent. With age is said to come experience, but sometimes raw talent just shines through.

STANLEY IN HEAVEN

Stanley In Heaven formed about 1 and a half years ago and have been terrorising Guy's bedroom ever since. A fresh start from the Point Blank era they play indie-rock and have been playing it around Halifax/Leeds/Huddersfield.

LEAGUE LIEGE

League Liege are the forerunners of a new breed of rock band to explode on to the Manchester music scene. Crossing intuitive guitar chords with tight harmonizing vocal melodies over a strong melodic bassline and powerful, eclectic drum beats; League Liege create a true original sound with a subtle nod to the pioneers of rock, hip hop and classical music.

It was late 2007 when two-piece alternative rock band League Liege spread their wings and dived in to the world of live music. After recruiting more band members to make up the current 5 piece line-up, they set out to secure their first gig, supporting Tom Hingley of Inspiral Carpets at Bar Amp. After another successful gig headlining an All Ages Gig which was attended by over 250 music fans, the live shows have continued, including performances at top Manchester venues such as Jabez Clegg and Dry Bar..

All of the songs so far have been home-recorded and more are being constantly added to the repertoire. With future gig opportunities at Manchester Academy and possible support for signed and touring bands as well as plans to record their first 3 track EP in the summer; League Liege will continue to perform, record and develop with the aim to make their music heard.

JESUS BURGERS

Formed in late 2006, this collection of freaks have since been seen to unleash their brand of hybrid music on the unsuspecting public of Manchester, England. Consisting of a Thug with a clown fetish, a deranged cosmetic surgeon, a hulking rabid beardo, a filthy metal militant, Hasselhoff haired hornsters and known to perform with a DJ to prove their rightful place on the modern music scene.

Coming from the nations capital of Anti Social Behaviour Orders has twisted the lives of these individuals to the point it is quite clear where the strange multicultural sounds and bizarre appearance were formed.

In 2007 they recorded their 'Fear Of A McPlanet' demo EP, consisting of six tracks Titch, Born For Porn, Friends Drugs & Roots, We Ended Up Having To Eat Each Other, The Mexican and Hi Honey! I..m Dead! Regional venues are being terrorised and Record companies sought, so the band can deliver their greasy, groovy and grungy product straight to the unsuspecting public and corrupt them into our way of thinking! We need you support!
