3 Daft Monkeys is a world-influenced acoustic band from Cornwall, UK consisting of Tim Ashton, Athene Roberts and Jamie Waters who combine vocals, fiddle, 12-string guitar, bass guitar and foot drum. Their influences include Celtic, Balkan, Gypsy, Latino, Dance, Dub, Punk and Traditional Folk. The band have had great success at venues and festivals all over the UK and Europe, including being invited by Show of Hands to play the main stage at the Eden Project and the 2008 BBC Proms at St. Davids Hall in Cardiff. They are also a regular support act for The Levellers, with Athene usually returning to join The Levellers onstage for the finale in a dwelling fiddle-off of ‘What You Know’ with added tambourine from Jamie and tin-whistle from Tim. To date the band has released a total of six full-length studio albums; 2000’s Brouhaha, 2002’s Ooomim, 2004’s Hubbadillia, 2007’s Gibbon It Live & Dreckly and Go Tell The Bees and their latest release 2008’s Social Vertigo. Their music is fun, celebratory and carnival. It has the ability to protest and party. The musicianship – the virtuosity, the songcraft, the arrangements are simply astonishing. |
