02 WIRELESS WEEKENDER
Founded in 2001 at Pomona College, California by Keith Murray, Chris Cain and Michael Tapper We Are Scientists soon relocated to Brooklyn to seek their fortune as an angular post punk band. The three loveable geeks released a few self-financed EPs before cutting their first major label long player. Their debut album ‘With Love and Squalor’, released in 2005, was an exercise in taught, adorable indie with thoughtful lyrics about staying at parties too long, drinking too much and falling for the wrong girl, with all three often resulting in the carnage of personal relationships. The band spent the next couple of years enjoying major success in the UK and Europe and became well known for their unconventional niceness across the festival circuit. Live, their infectious pop melodies were punctuated by ridiculous on stage banter and their frivolous and very funny interview style. In 2006 they released, ‘Crap Attack’, a collection of B-sides, videos, remixes and rarities before heading back to the States to work on new album. The resulting compendium, ‘Brain Thrust Mastery’ will be available soon. The band split amicably with drummer Michael Tapper last year, he has been replaced by Max Hart. Despite the band’s frequent visits to the UK this will be Hart’s first We Are Scientists Manchester show. |
